The word champagne is a derivative of the Latin word campagnia, a country region located north of Rome. The real champagne originates exclusively in the region of Champagne, located 150 kilometers from Paris.
Champagne is a sparkling wine, the original sparkling wine made from grapes and naturally fermented and named after its birth region. Any other part of the world can produce, and in fact produce, sparkling wines. However, only those who come from the Champagne region can be called thus.
