Bacanora

Bacanora is a distillate originating from the state of Sonora, Mexico. It is made from the fermentation and distillation of agave, like tequila, mezcal, sotol and raicilla; these four alcoholic beverages are protected by designations of origin. This beverage is obtained from the agave type Angustifolia Haw or popularly also known as agave espadín or yaquiana (Agave vivipara). It is generally a colourless drink with a high alcohol content, varying between 38% and 55% alcohol by volume. It was considered "illegal" for a period of 77 years.
